Quicksilver is a multi-application launcher for Macs. Anyone who’s used Quicksilver before will testify to it’s ease of use and tremendous functionality. Instead of trying to locate a file, double click, and launch said file, Quicksilver allows you to quickly locate and open files, programs, websites, and more.

All this can be done without your hands leaving the keyboard as you hold the control button and tap the spacebar. You then type in what you’re trying to locate, and Quicksilver will quickly list files, programs, and folders and you are able to scroll up or down and hit the return key to launch what you want.

After some time using Quicksilver, it will memorize what you’ve selected in the past and recognize what you want to open. The program is able to do this because it indexes parts of your Hard Drive and stores it in a catalog. When you don’t need Quicksilver, it stays in the background until you need it for something.

I have to say, after having used it for several years, Quicksilver is by far the most useful app. Definitely a contender for best Mac software.
